22+ Years in the Artisan Studio
My craft journey started more than two decades ago with a potter's wheel, a ball of local wool, and a curiosity for how everyday functional objects are shaped by human hands. Over the last 22 years, I have taught hundreds of students in Spain how to center clay, regulate crochet tension, and knot clean macramé patterns.
There is no substitute for physical studio time. When you work with raw clay bodies every day, you learn the exact humidity needed to prevent handle cracks. When you crochet hundreds of swatches, you know which hook taper prevents hand fatigue and how to keep blanket borders from curling.
Our Three Core Craft Disciplines
Maker Cottage is built around three timeless manual crafts that complement each other in any slow home:
- Crochet & Wearables: Clear, beginner-friendly patterns for seam-free cardigans, cozy heirloom blankets, and summer bucket hats, always calibrated with gauge swatches and row-by-row counts.
- Studio Pottery & Ceramics: Practical notes for home and studio potters, from pinch and coil building to wheel throwing cylinders, drying schedules, and pyrometric cone firing.
- Fiber Arts & Macramé: Natural unbleached cotton cord projects, botanical wildflower embroidery, and slow sewing tutorials designed for durable everyday living.
Hands-On Studio Testing & Honest Advice
Every single pattern, guide, and supply recommendation on Maker Cottage is verified on our studio workbench. We do not publish unverified AI patterns or untested theories. When we recommend a clay body, an ergonomic hook, or a cord thickness, it is because we have handled it, tested its durability, and used it in real projects.
